Vagnar’s Wroth

THE BROKEN SWORD OF VAGNAR

The massive, shattered sword known as Vagnar’s Wroth is said to have once belonged to the mythical giant of a Man, Vagnar. Even broken as it is, the ruined blade is longer than most fully intact swords. Standing nearly seven cubits tall, Vagnar’s stature naturally led him to a position of authority in the Bloodtribes of the Forsaken Desert. When the God of Hell, Droghedel, emerged from his mountaintop fortress of Kurnugi and tempted the Qals of the Bloodtribes, Vagnar refused to bow down. He and 77 others took up arms against their former clanmates, but were eventually driven out of their desert home. Vagnar found an ally in the Hero of the Red Sands, Lohengrin the Lyon, who had answered the call of the Alchemist and been granted a Godbreaker, a weapon capable of defeating Droghedel. Though not as massive as Lohengrin’s Hammer, Vagnar was gifted his own colossal weapon to wage war against the dreaded fiend. He and his men would join the Hero on his quest, battling the corrupted Bloodtribes and the infernal minions of Droghedel. It is said that Vagnar’s Wroth was shattered when he tried to wrench it from the gut of the God of Hell and that the shards still rest within the foul creature’s flesh, sealed deep within a forgotten fissure of the earth. Storytellers of the Forsaken Desert claim that Droghedel’s tainted blood cursed the sword bringing bad fortune to any who would dare wield it.

Since the vanquishing of Droghedel, many others have attempted to wield the fractured remains of Vagnar’s Wroth, but nearly all have met rather inglorious ends. The most notable may be Quintilis, who attempted to overthrow the High Chief of the Lyonspryde and install himself as chieftain. He failed in this attempt, and many would blame his hubris and downfall on the accursed sword.
