BARON'S COVE COURTS THAT GRANT PATENTS TO INVENTORS
The Patency Courts of Baron’s Cove are one of the city’s six Lower Courts, set up to preside over and grant patents to the engineers and inventors who swarmed to Baron’s Bay ages ago with the advent of the aeroship. The Patency Courts are housed in the chambers of Flamborough Hall, the sprawling grounds that belonged to the first Chief Justiciar of the Court, Lord Flamarion. The Courts have notoriously favored the nearby Loci Manaworks, with well over half of all patents in Baron’s Cove belonging to the automaton manufactory. In fact, the first six Chief Justiciars of the Patency Courts served on the board of directors at the Manaworks. In recent times, however, only eleven of the last fourteen have been affiliated with Loci.
Justiciar Edrington, currently the oldest serving judge on the Baron’s Cove Patency Courts. Coming from a long line of Patency Court judges, his great-grandfather, Justiciar Kensington, was the judge who granted the patent to first manufact mana condensor units to the Loci Manaworks.
