The Mantiscythe

THE VICIOUS SWORD OF KUROCULA

The Mantiscythe was a weapon fashioned from the forelimb of the lethal aggromantid, said to have been wielded by Kurocula, the infamous Scourge of Balabrelock. Attacking from his hideout at Woods Deep, Kurocula and his bandits terrorized the walled city for years. In his most daring of raids, Kurocula had absconded with Vanielle, Princess of Balabrelock, and took her back to his lair in the Elderwood. While there, she met one of Kurocula’s men, Farnham the Shark, and the two secretly fell in love. Farnham escaped with Princess Vanielle, taking her back to Balabrelock in the dead of night. The enraged Kurocula mustered all of his men to storm the walls of the city, and in a duel outside the gates, was defeated by Farnham. The vicious Mantiscythe was then carried by the Shark as a trophy of his victory for many years thereafter.

The aggromantids of the Elderwood are a giant strain of mantis, ferociously territorial of their nesting grounds. Kurocula was said to have singlehandedly downed one of these massive creatures and taken its spike-studded forelimb as his weapon.
