The Igneusabre

THE MAGMATIC SWORD OF THE GULGURITES

The Igneusabre was the weapon of choice for the cult known as the Order of the Fiery Plateau, or the Gulgurites as they were derisively labeled. They were an exiled sect of pyromancers and geomancers who worshiped a deity trapped within the heart of the Firescalds, a volcanic range in the Harshlands. They believed this ancient deity, who they called Gulguru, was responsible for the scalding flows of lava that rolled down the mountains. The fanatics raised magma golems from the depths of the Smoldermount, the tallest of the Firescalds, and cast Igneusabre swords from the lavaflows. Some time after the last of the Great Schisms, the Gulgurites attacked the nearby settlement of Dry Salem, abducting the maidens of the village with designs to sacrifice them to their subterranean god. The elders of Dry Salem entreated the Magehunters to rescue the maidens, offering up the treasures of the desert to the mercenaries, but in the end it fell to the villagers themselves to stop the zealots. A courageous young lad by the name of Finbriar, spurred by the capture of his love Solti, led the men of Dry Salem to the mouth of the Smoldermount caldera and defeated the Gulgurites before a single  maiden could be cast into the fires. Finbriar supposedly hefted one of the Igneusabres from a fallen Gulgurite, burning his skin to the bone, and drove their leader, the deranged Kalirith, into the churning magma below. The mountains calmed after this, with only one eruption in the centuries since. Finbriar was said to have lived the rest of his life with the cooled Igneusabre fused to his right hand.

Pyromancers and geomancers, utilizing the same variety of magic to conjure golems, forged cudgel-like swords. Though sections of the rock were cooled, they were nevertheless intensely hot to anyone but those mages conditioned to extreme temperatures.
