The Chrysalsword

THE ELVEN SWORD OF DAMATHIEL

The Chrysalsword was the glass-like blade of the ancient Pallid Lord of the Eynhallow, Damathiel. Fashioned from shards recovered from the Crystalsea, the colorful Chrysalsword contrasted sharply with the sallow Lord Damathiel. Typically sullen and aloof, his majestic blade was the only bright and lively presence found in his palace on the edge of the Sardonyx Sea. How he had come to acquire the prismatic weapon is a tale lost to time, but rumors circulated among the commoners of the Eynhallow that his ghastly countenance was due to a trade of his own vim and vigor for the Chrysalsword. At the end of his long reign, it was said that a ship sailed south to the Eynhallow, its sails made of shimmering glass and its hull a kaleidoscope of crystals. Damathiel allegedly knelt on the hard rocky shore and presented the Chrysalsword to the mysterious beings, themselves shining brightly against the setting sun. As the sword left his fingers, Damathiel supposedly crumbled into a heap of dust and ash. This fabled scene has been the subject of many a painter’s brush, most famously in Lotero’s “Twilight of the Pallid Lord”, of which the original still hangs in the collection of Archduke Pewter.

The mysterious ship that met Damathiel on his final day was said to have been captained by the Prophet-Queen of the Luxenfae, a race of elf-like people who hailed from somewhere deep within the Crystalsea. As traveling that far north is fraught with peril, very few mariners or aero captains have dared to investigate any truth to these ancient legends.
