THE BLOOD RED FACE OF THE MOON
The Blood Moon is the rarest of the eight faces of the moon, occurring only once every hundred-and-six years. What causes it to glow red is unknown to Scientists, but its effect on the world is evident. During this time, the moon bares its scarred and cratered side and bathes the night sky in crimson. Legends tell that the Gods of Hell descended to the earth as the Blood Moon rose from the fiery sky lit by the Setting Sun. Magick, specifically haemomancy, is claimed to be especially potent and Men are said to give in to the sinfulness of their hearts while under its sanguine light. Babies born under the Blood Moon are considered unworthy and prone to wickedness. This would seem to be confirmed as many of history’s most immoral figures were said to have been born under its unholy light, including the High Mage of Bloodmagick, Lesperith; Nishiji, instigator of the Third Great Schism; Nandalya, poisoner of the Viridian Emperor Verodotus; and the infamous seductress, the Bandit’s Bride. Rumors persist that the 8th Baron Novotny was born under the Blood Moon, though the only sin he seems to be guilty of thus far is indifference.
The rugged and craggy face of the Blood Moon highlights some of the most striking features of the lunar landscape, including the massive Despont Sea and the deep Diavolic Chasm. The relatively smooth southern plain is marked by the star-shaped crater of Haserot’s Scar, where the God of Heaven Haserot supposedly crashed after being banished from the earth. His starry imprisonment is said to streak wildly across the Firmament due to this ancient impact.
