The Anarch’s Blade

THE EXILED SWORD OF PORPHURIO

The period of Treboan history known as the Anarchy began when a blacksmith named Porphurio led a citizen army against the cruel King of Treboa, Valentine IV. Marching into Valentine’s palace, the Grand Travancore, Porphuro plunged a dagger into the king’s heart as he sat the throne, earning the sobriquet “the Anarch”. He would then abolish the monarchy, and as a symbol of this, forged Valentine’s own crown and royal jewels into a sword - forever known as the Anarch’s Blade. Porphurio proved unable, or some would say unwilling, to restore order and for decades, the city of Treboa and its sister-states descended into chaos. Bandits roved the streets and fire spread rampant, reducing once magnificent manors to charred rubble. From this violent period, however, a valiant champion of justice arose - Tolomei, a humble young woman from Camisado who stood up to the Anarchy of Porphurio and toppled his regime. She gathered an alliance of displaced commoners, destitute merchants, vagrant nobles and discharged soldiers and reclaimed the city of Treboa. Not wishing for more bloodshed, she exiled Porphurio to the northron island of Bitterill. Her final act before stepping down was to bury the Anarch’s Blade in a secret location that she took to her grave, ensuring that no one else would take up arms and lead Treboa into darkness ever again.

Porphurio melted down the royal jewels of King Valentine IV and his bride, Queen Iberis, and forged the molten metal into a crooked, misshapen blade. Valentine’s crown was warped into a twisted hilt and his royal sash wrapped around the sword’s grip.
