THE UTILITY SWORD OF OSBERT

A rare misstep in the illustrious catalogue of September and Company, and one of the few items actually manufacted by the company itself, the Survivalist’s Blade was the brainchild of Osbert, third son of Lord Director Tennycross. A renowned, if not eccentric, explorer and surivalist himself, Osbert built his own working prototype of the Survivalist’s Blade on his expedition to the Viridian Hinterland. While searching for pre-Cataclysmic relics he believed lay buried in the countryside, he combined a single-edged sword, a single-bit axe, a short handsaw and a rockpick together inside an interlocking wooden casing widdled down to a handheld grip at its base. Though Osbert swore by his invention, merchants found the weapon ungainly and unwieldy for widespread use. The weapon sold poorly, with most models purchased by Osbert himself. A forgotten room at the September and Company storehaus outside Edlem is said to be overflowing with surplus inventory of the Survivalist’s Blade.

Osbert claimed to have sawn down a barreltree just north of Limerot, inside which he found a cache of ancient Viridian crescents minted during the reign of Emperor Demitori. However, historians at the University of Littlecott determined that the coins were forgeries, poorly made ones at that.
