Sgorath’s Bond

THE COSMIC SWORD OF YESPERAT

Sgorath’s Bond was the name of a strange crystalline sword carried by the astromancer Yesperat. Originally an advisor to Single-Eyed Suvik, one of the Ancient Kings, the eccentric starmage began to obsess over a name he discovered in a primitive astrological chart: Sgorath. He believed this to be the name of an all-powerful cosmic diety that lived among the Firmament and would one day descend to earth and rule over all of Man. He was exiled from Suvik’s court but soon found himself a small following in the city of Sinneslochen. They erected a temple along the sea, the Sgoratheon, just outside the city, from which he and his disciples would watch the stars for any sign from their distant god. One evening, a large and jagged shard of nightglass washed up upon the beach before the temple, which Yesperat interpreted as a gift from Sgorath. He inscribed the shard with the names of stars and other astromantic runes, and chiseled and sharpened it into a sword-like shape. Yesperat never used the asperous blade in battle, instead treating it as a ceremonial object to focus his starmagick through. The Sgoratheon was later destroyed in the rage of a violent seastorm, but afterward no bodies were recovered from the rubble, nor Yesperat’s sacred sword found. Today, small sects of Yesperatians still look to the stars for the eventual coming of Sgorath and the return of their founder.

Often times, Yesperat would be seen sitting on the temple steps caressing and whispering to the crystalline sword before turning his eyes skyward to scan the Firmament for a sign from his god. Accounts detail that he would sit, transfixed on the heavens, for hours, and sometimes even days, at a time.
