THE ICY SWORD OF YLYANA

The most loyal member of Ylspeth of Ulheim’s Boreal Guard was a young woman by the name of Ylyana. Hailing from the small village of Lesleia on the edge of the Snowglades, she carried the bitter cold sword Sastrugi. Frozen by the incantations of Gudvig, the High Mage of Cryomancy, one side of Sastrugi was coated with the most frigid of packed snow and the other chiseled to an icy biting point. Ylyana earned the moniker “the Yce Morrigan” for her unwavering devotion and ferocity in battle. After Ylspeth’s death in battle against the dread God of Hell, Eliabel, the Yce Morrigan herself was chosen by the Council of the North to succeed her queen. However, she refused the appointment, declaring that her role was not to lead the realm, but to serve it. So it was that Ylyana of Lesleia was named First Sword of the Boreal Guard, and went on to dutifully protect the royal family of Ulheim until her last breath.

Ylyana was first called the Yce Morrigan after defeating Baeltooth, a savage jotunn that had been harassing the villagers of Onoheim. For that feat she was granted the sword Sastrugi. The frozen blade currently sits above Ylspeth’s Seat in the throne room of the Yceholt.
