THE FORBIDDEN SWORD OF JUBAL

The name Jubal is rarely, if ever, heard on the frontier of the Harshlands as it has been stricken from the Tomes of the Ancestors. It once belonged to an ancient prince, the third son of the third wife of Loengard, 12th Lord Lyonhart, who betrayed his father during the First Great Schism. Overlooked as he was, so low on the list of succession, the young Jubal grew jealous and angry in the shadow of his older siblings. This anger led him down a dark path, culminating in his acquaintance with the bloodmage Sinorix. Exiled from her home in the Crowlands, Sinorix practiced the forbidden Magick of haemomancy. Together, the two delved into the heretical arts and succumbed to the insatiable bloodlust of vampyrism that is typical of bloodmagick. In one of their rituals, the two summoned the bones of a long dead creature from beneath the earth. From this, Jubal carved the sharp scapula bone into a sword and christened it Nergal. Calling himself Bloodlyon, Jubal planned to usurp his father at the fortress of Carmeline. They were stopped by Jubal’s elder brother, Jophery, before the crazed vampyrs could strike. Taking no mercy on the frenzied pair, Loengard condemned them to death in the scorching heat of the Forsaken Desert. Nergal was said to have sunk beneath the shifting sands to rejoin the skeleton from which it was taken.

Covered in hundreds of tiny etchings and marked with Jubal’s bloodsigil, Nergal was lost beneath the dunes of the Forsaken Desert. Legends claim that should anyone recover it from the sands, they too would be stricken with the curse of vampyrism.
