A SMALL LEATHER COIN PURSE POPULAR IN THE EAST

A monedero is a small leather coin purse made fashionable by the upper crust of the eastron elite. The tiny bags held shut with a kisslock clasp were first made in the coastal city of Camisado before merchants brought them across the Deodato Strait to the metropolis of Treboa. They became instantly popular among the Treboan gentry, quickly replacing simple drawstring pouches that most carried their crescents in. In time, both men and women of the eastron cities would carry their coins in fine, full-grain leather monederos, many embroidered and embellished with floral designs or symbols of their lordly houses. The richly ornamented bags caught the eye of Diarmid, 110th Lord Director of September & Company who bought a massive inventory of monederos from the Mercato Tannery in the Santremo district of Treboa to sell in the west. The little coin purses remain popular items at their department store in Edlem to this day.

An antique monedero featuring the emblem of Duke Alesando, also known as the Blue Lyon. The ten aphrite gems circling the lyon’s head represent Alesandro’s ten wives. The kisslock clasp along its rim features two opposing lyon’s heads, a reference to the struggles between Alesando and his father, Reinbern the Grey Lyon. After nearly two decades of infighting and intrigue, the two factions came together amicably as Reinbern lay upon his deathbed. The single Blue Lyon dates the monedero to over six hundred years old, as after their reconciliation, Alesando changed his crest to feature both blue and grey lyon’s heads, in honor of his late father.
