A SHORT UNIT OF TIME USED BY AERO PILOTS

A mid is a relatively small measurement of time, commonly used by those in the field of aeronautics. Originally used to denote the time it took for a mana infusion device (a word often shortened to “mid”) to receive power from its cell, typically anywhere from two to three minutes. As the term gained usage among pilots and engineers, so too did it spread among the mechanists and staff of the myriad of service stations and aeroship hubs springing up around the known world. The Llandrilo Guild of Arcane Sciences was the first to develop a precise amount of time for a standard mid, which the arithmeticians of the guild set at 2.7273 minutes, a number typically rounded out to 1/22nd of an hour. As technology has advanced, Arcanists and aeroship engineers have achieved speeds much faster than a standard mid. The fastest engine currently on the market is the  0.283-mid “Infernal Gallop” engine manufacted by the Vohlstok Engineworks out of the industrial city of Drowick.
