THE SPIRITUAL ENERGY THAT EMPOWERS MAGICK

Mana is the spiritual energy that empowers Magick. All living creatures possess the ability to generate mana, but only those trained in Magickal arts truly have the ability to harness and shape it to their will. The mages of old would “borrow” mana from the space around them. Places rich with life like a forest or jungle would be overflowing with mana, whereas those locations devoid of life like deep underground mining vaults required much more concentration on the part of the mage to focus their own mana. Hieromancers, or holymages, were trained extensively in the restoration and cultivation of mana, and descendants of those ancient mages still practice their art today in sanctuaries across the land. It was said that mana flowed from the Gods and following their banishment, it is true that much of the mana of the world has diminished greatly. Arcanists, however, have developed a way to artificially enhance and replenish mana to power their aeroships and automatons, though this manufacted mana is nowhere near as effective as true natural mana. While ancient mages did not quantify mana in their spells, arcanists generally measure the energy in iotas of MP or “mana potent”. Mana in its natural state gives off a cerulean glow, like the color of a clear blue sky, whereas manufacted mana emits a more greenish hue. There have been reports of mana which has become tainted and corrupted giving off a deep indigo color, often accompanied by a rotten odor.
