THE LIVING SWORD OF COSTA DELORO

One of the most popular items in the inventory of September & Company over the last century has been the Feral Edge. The denizens of Costa Deloro have long domesticated and used the ferocious lagartija as both a guardian and a weapon itself. Hundreds of years of selective breeding had reduced its body into a mostly elongated hilt-like shape, while the ravenous jaws and scaly growths along its head have evolved into a vaguely sword-like appearance. When Lord Director Brunswick of September & Company, great-grandfather of the current Lord Director Carduino, visited Costa Deloro on the eternal search for new and exotic trading partners, he was instantly drawn to the snarling, snapping “swords” wielded by the village chief’s personal guard. Sensing an opportunity, Brunswick worked out a lucrative import contract with the beastmasters of Costa Deloro and brought shiploads of lagartijas back to Edlem. Marketed as the “Feral Edge”, it became a popular sale among the adventurous swordsmen of Baron’s Cove. There even exists a “Lagartija Haven” in the seaside community of Bayside for rescuing the creatures from swordsmen who took poor care of their living weaponry.

Over the years, further experimentation by the beastmasters of September & Company has developed several distinct breeds of the Feral Edge: the red-maned, red-eyed Blankatija; the white-maned, purple-eyed Targatija; and the black-maned, yellow-eyed Savatija.
