THE STARCROSSED SWORD OF ASTROPHEL

The last High Mage of Astromancy wielded a sword in which the power of the stars themselves was ingrained. Calling himself Astrophel, a name meaning “star lover”, he spent several years enchanting a blade of solid nightglass, a gleaming material recovered from an ancient crater in the Depths. He named the sword Eveningtide and inscribed it with runes and constellations, drawing power from the Firmament into its lustrous blade. With most of his starmage brethren abandoning their ancient order and finding employment and residence among the burgeoning Arcanist Guilds, Astrophel began training in the art of the sword - enhanced by his own mastery over the Third Primordial Discipline. As his order’s numbers dwindled leaving only Astrophel and a select group of loyal mages, he begrudgingly sold his sword and the spells of his followers to whatever warlord or petty king had need of their services. In time, the Stellar Remnant, as he had named his small army of mages, became one of the most prominent mercenary companies in the east. After Astrophel’s death during the Siege of Monsalvat, Eveningtide was passed down to the next leader of the Stellar Remnant, who too bore the title of High Mage (though not recognized as such by any Magickal authorities).

The current High Mage of the Stellar Remnant is Trencavel. Under his leadership, the Stellar Remnant has become less focused on Magick and has come to be known as one of the most ruthless of the eastron free companies. He also relocated the mercenaries to the abandoned palace of Sel Phiner on the outskirts of Calideon, a place of rather dark renown.
