Earthsworn Blade

THE STONE SWORD OF VILHJALMUR

The Earthsworn Blade was a large stone sword carried by the geomancer Vilhjalmur. A recluse living in the Forest of the Baer King just south of the northron coastal town of Minzeck, Vilhjalmur spent decades studying the art of geomancy. When Minzek was threatened by the Tupilaq, a group of masqued seafaring raiders, he hefted his mighty blade and defended the port. Legends claim that he used his stonemagick, concentrated through the Earthsworn Blade, to drive large pillars of rock upward from the seafloor, smashing the Tupilaq boats to pieces. He then crossed the sea and defeated the leader of the Tupilaq, Great Lear, atop the tallest of the rock formations. These jagged stone spires gradually eroded over the centuries to form the island now known as Learsend. To this day intrepid explorers and excavators scour the craggy peaks for Vilhjalmur’s great sword, but it is still yet to be found among the shattered Tupilaq masques and the splintered slivers of their boats.

After defeating Great Lear, Vilhjalmur struck the ground with the Earthsworn Blade and his body collapsed into a thousand tiny pebbles. It is said that should anyone find Vilhjalmur’s sword upon the island of Learsend, only one courageous and pure of heart could heft the mighty sword from the earth where it has sat stoic and moss-ridden for ages.
