THE ANCHOR-SWORD OF GUSTAVEL

All throughout the Far North, the legend of Gustavel the Gust has been told around campfires and hearths for ages. The barrel-chested and scruffy-bearded warrior was one of the founding members of the Northron Vanguard. An avid seafarer on the frigid Sardonyx Sea, Gustavel fashioned his signature weapon, Deadweight, from the anchor of his beloved barque, the Svanhildur. The ship had run aground during a blustery squall just north of the Eynhallow. Once on land, a pack of ravenous dourwulves threatened Gustavel and his crew. He hefted Svanhildur’s fluked anchor and fought off the beasts. He and his crew then marched through the tundra to Gojerand, where they heard of the Hero, Croydon the Coldheart’s, call to arms against the ferocious God of Hell, Fenryx. Arriving from the mountain passes north of Bern Lake, covered in the skins and bones of beasts they’d felled along the way - dourwulves, woolly baers, even a mighty mastodon - Gustavel and his crew joined the Hero’s battle.

Some tales state Gustavel died fighting against one of the foul creatures that allied themselves with Fenryx, while others say he survived the battle, only to drown trying to recover Croydon’s Blade from the icy depths of Bern Lake. Whatever the truth may be, his legendary anchor-sword Deadweight has been enshrined in the Northron Vanguard’s barracks outside of the Bleakwood.
