COLD cRAW
A NORTHRON DISH OF RAW FISH
Cold craw is a delicacy that originated in the frozen wilderness of the Far North. Northron huntsmen and trappers learned to subsist on the cold meat of the northron crawdad, a crustacean native to the icy waterways that wind through the snowfields of the Northron Wastes. In time, word of the tasty fare spread to other corners of the world, with each region putting their own particular spin on the meal. Traditional northron cold craw is served raw, in thick slices and with a side of gutweed. Further south, Treboan craw is made from the flesh of the westron anchovy, cut into thin strips and served over a platter of flatnoodle and sprinkled with crushed spicy peppercini. On the island of Glodovin, the fishmongers of Deeping Ness make their craw with bristlecrab meat. This rendition is served rolled in a thick strip of blue slakeweed. Though beloved locally, Nessencraw is considered a rather bland take on the dish. Hot craw is a variety served in the cantinas and tavernas of the Harshlands. Made from the meat of the pupfish, whose internal body temperature is already very high, it is the only variety served warm. It is most commonly served with fried prawn and firecorn. Along the coasts of Baron’s Bay, two competing recipes exist. In Bayside, blue craw is popular among the vacationers at the beachside resorts. It is prepared with the meat of the blue lopister and served on a bed of celtuce leaves and a side of sliced avocado. The more expensive of the two is white craw, favored by the upper crust of Baron’s Cove and the nouveau riche of Lydane. It is made from the meat of the rare platinum gar and served atop a mound of lamprey jelly garnished with cucumber juliennes. On Baron’s Rock, Fitzcameron, the resident chef of Duke’s Aeroservice, boasts of his imported cold craw straight from the northron fisheries of St. Helena. However, with the exception of Doe, the dish isn’t very popular among the mechanists at Duke’s.
