Archmage

A PARAGON  OF THE MAGICKAL ARTS

The title of Archmage was held by only the most skilled, wise and exceptional of all mages. The duty of the Archmage was to preside over and guide the study of Magick, as well as to delve into mysteries that only the sharpest minds could comprehend. In order to become an Archmage, one must already hold the office of High Mage within their respective discipline. From there, the prospective Archmage must have a particular magickal innovation or discovery attributed to them. Then a Grand Conventicle of High Mages would be held to vote on who would best lead the magickal arts. The first known Archmage was a man by the name of Kajidoh. Hailing from the lost city of Valvalis, legends tell that he even instructed the Alchemist in the ways of Magick. The records of the Jonagolds, one of the most ancient of the old mage families, acknowledge twenty-seven Archmages since Kajidoh, their names being Leovigildo, Zakharin, Xerigordon, Cassiobelanus, Valromey the Great, Blongeaux, Nordlingen, Margarelon, Qlawus, Grey Wodenstag, Erendira, Reuven of Riverhallow, Todmorden, Ytterbine, Ulvanya, Ihsogan, Olazabal, Pavlovna, Aufidia, Sofonisba, Deboahan, Foulques, Grandoyne, Helinandus XI, Jouberthon, Wence, and Thalestris, the last Archmage whose public execution by the Magehunters drove many mages to practice their art in secret.
