Aboculis

THE SIGHTSHORN SWORD OF ISLABRAE

Shaped from the gouged eye of the hill giant Cernabbas, Aboculis was the sword of the infamous mage Islabrae. Cernabbas had long been a terror to the citizens of the village of Farilham, raiding the hilltop village whenever hunger churned in its belly. When the traveling halfmage Islabrae arrived in Farilham, she found a village in fear. She gathered what able-bodied men the villagers could muster and set out in the dead of night to put a stop to the hill giant’s transgressions. However, little did the villagers know that Islabrae was in fact a practitioner of the forbidden art of bloodmagick. She deceived the men of Farilham into participating in a bloodmagick incantation, sacrificing themselves to give her power with which she slew the mighty Cernabbas and gouged out the creature’s eye. She warped it into a savage mockery of a weapon and named it Aboculis. She then used her dark Magick to enthrall the dessicated body of Cernabbas to her will. With her own hill giant under her control, she declared herself Queen of the Hill and forced the citizens of the town to do her bidding. Word of Islabrae’s ill deeds soon reached the ear of Corbaine, Grandmaster of the Order of the Malleus Maleficarum. He sent two of his Magehunters, Saxon and Adelaide, to stop Islabrae. They returned months later with Aboculis in hand, the eye of Cernabbas twitching and writhing in rage at the loss of its master.

Aboculis, one of countless relics and occult objects housed in the Infernal Vaults beneath the Citadel, the Magehunters’ headquarters in Calideon. Cernabbas’ eye still darts about relentlessly to this day, searching in vain for its fallen master.
